U-N-I Returns for the Blog Era: Long Beach, September 12
Much love to Marcus “Don Dada” Johnson and Julien Edwards!
There are moments in music that define a generation. For many fans of independent hip-hop, the late 2000s and early 2010s were exactly that—a time when blogs broke artists before algorithms, mixtapes spread through forums and message boards, and discovery felt personal. On September 12, that era comes back to life at the F&M Bank Amphitheatre in Long Beach as some of the most influential artists of the Blog Era gather for a historic celebration featuring Miguel, Big Sean, Dom Kennedy, The Cool Kids, and more.
For us, this event carries even deeper meaning.
U-N-I is back on stage.
Before playlists dominated music discovery, U-N-I emerged from Los Angeles as one of the defining voices of a new independent movement. The duo's blend of alternative hip-hop, fashion-forward aesthetics, and genre-bending creativity helped carve out a lane alongside a generation of artists who leveraged the internet to build communities outside of traditional industry systems.
Projects like Fried Chicken & Watermelon and A Love Supreme 2.0 became staples of the Blog Era conversation, earning support from tastemakers, blogs, and fans around the world. What started as a movement built through message boards, mp3 downloads, and word-of-mouth evolved into a lasting cultural footprint that continues to influence artists today.
This September, that chapter gets revisited in front of thousands of fans who lived through it—and a new generation discovering why the era mattered so much.
More Than Nostalgia
The Blog Era wasn't just a period in music history. It represented a shift in power.
Artists could build audiences directly. Communities formed around taste rather than marketing budgets. Independent creatives collaborated across cities and genres, creating a culture that felt accessible, experimental, and authentic.
Many of the artists on this lineup became global stars, but their foundations were built during a time when fans actively searched for music rather than having it served to them. This celebration honors that spirit.
For U-N-I, returning to the stage alongside peers and contemporaries who helped define the era feels less like a reunion and more like a family gathering.
A Full-Circle Moment
Over the years, both members of U-N-I have continued to evolve creatively and professionally. For me, that journey has led to building Party In My Living Room (PIMLR), developing artist ecosystems, creating large-scale cultural activations, and continuing to release music that pushes boundaries.
Yet the DNA of U-N-I remains present in everything we do: community-first thinking, creative independence, and a commitment to building culture rather than chasing trends.
The Blog Era celebration is an opportunity to reconnect with the fans who supported us from day one and to introduce U-N-I's story to a new audience experiencing this music for the first time.
